The Italian Renaissance / The Northern Renaissance
The purpose of this project is to prepare a comparison of the Italian and Northern Renaissances.
1. Compare two humanists – one representative of the Italian and one representative of the Northern.
• First, decide what elements of their writing or philosophies would be significant enough to form a comparison.
• Suggestion – consider elements of secular/civic vs. Christian humanism.
• Summarize your findings in a couple of paragraphs, or in a chart.
2. Compare two artists – one representative of the Italian and one representative of the Northern.
• Again, decide what are the significant elements to compare and contrast.
• Suggestion – consider the artists and their works as products of their cultures.
• Choose only one work of art from each artist you choose as the focus of your comparison.
• Paste an image of each artwork into a comparison chart.
• Summarize your comparison in a paragraph.
3. Conclusion – Evaluate why you think the Italian Renaissance differed from the Northern.
